Simexa

Business security combines intrusion alarms, video surveillance, access control and professional monitoring, sized to each site. Simexa helps you explore commercial security from Vivint and ADT Business: 24/7 monitoring, HD cameras, smart locks or full access control, and, with ADT Business, management across multiple locations. We explain monitoring, equipment and agreement terms up front, and coordinate installation with the provider you choose, for one site or many.

Availability depends on your address, the provider, network coverage and product eligibility.

What you get

  1. 01

    Designed per site

Coverage for your doors, floors and lots.

  2. 02

    Professional installation

    Systems installed by the provider.

  3. 03

    Many locations

    Installation scheduling coordinated across sites.

A retail store worries about the front door after closing and the register during the day. An office cares about who enters which floor. A warehouse has docks, yards and long nights. The right system follows the risks, the layout and the hours of each site, not a standard package.

We review your sites with you: the entry points, the hours, who needs access where, how long video should be kept and who should see it. For qualifying commercial security projects, we can help coordinate a site assessment with an appropriate provider or local representative. Then we lay out the available options side by side, with the equipment, the monitoring, the installation and the agreement terms in plain words, and coordinate scheduling with the provider across your locations. Simexa is a sales and coordination partner: the provider or its authorized contractor installs and monitors the system.

How it works

Most commercial systems are built from three layers, video, access control and intrusion alarms, joined by a network and, where the plan includes it, a monitoring center. Increasingly they are managed from one software platform.

  1. 01

    IP cameras and video

Most current business cameras are IP cameras: small networked computers that send video over the building's data network. Many are powered by the same network cable using Power over Ethernet (PoE), which reduces separate power runs. Indoor, outdoor, dome, bullet and wide view models suit different spaces, and camera placement matters as much as resolution.

  2. 02

    Recorders or cloud video

Video is recorded on site, on a network video recorder (NVR), or in the cloud through a provider's service, and some systems combine both. On site recording keeps footage local and does not depend on internet capacity. Cloud video simplifies remote viewing and multi-site management, but needs enough upload bandwidth and usually a per camera subscription.

  3. 03

    Access control

Electronic access control replaces keys with credentials: badges or fobs, PIN codes, or mobile credentials on employees' phones. Each door has a reader and a controlled lock, and the software decides who can open which door, and when. ADT Business offers access control with mobile credentials, keypads and card readers, remote lock and unlock from its app, and real-time access alerts. Vivint's business systems use smart locks with unique codes that show who comes and goes.

  4. 04

    Intrusion alarms and monitoring

Door contacts, motion sensors and glass break detectors protect the site after hours. When the armed system detects an intrusion, it signals a monitoring center, where operators review the alarm and can request a police response. Vivint and ADT Business both offer 24/7 professional monitoring, and Vivint adds a panic button that contacts monitoring directly. ADT offers video verification for small businesses, where an operator checks the video before calling police, on packages where it is available. Some central stations are listed to UL 827.

  5. 05

    One platform for many sites

ADT Business advertises multi-site capabilities: monitor the status of one or many locations, view recent activity and control security settings across your network from the ADT Control app, with compatible devices. Its video analytics can also report on heat mapping, queue monitoring, people counting and occupancy. Vivint does not publish a multi-site dashboard, so for many locations we compare how each proposal handles users, permissions and reports.

  6. 06

    Security systems are network devices

Cameras, recorders and door controllers are computers on your network, so they need the same care as the rest of your IT. Change default credentials before use, use strong unique passwords and multifactor authentication on management accounts, keep firmware updated, and limit who can reach the system remotely.

Questions about this service

Can we view cameras remotely?

Yes, with both providers. Vivint's app shows your cameras and alerts, and ADT Business lets you view live and recorded video and manage the system from the ADT Control app, with compatible devices. User permissions and the number of people who can view at once vary by package.

Can you secure several locations?

Yes. We help you evaluate options for each site and coordinate installation scheduling across your locations with the provider you choose. ADT Business offers multi-site management: the status of each location, recent activity and security settings across your network in one app. Vivint does not publish a multi-site dashboard. We confirm what each proposal includes before you sign.

Is monitoring included?

Vivint and ADT Business both offer 24/7 professional monitoring, and Vivint requires monitoring with its business systems. Monitoring is delivered by the provider you choose, not by Simexa. ADT offers video verification for small businesses on packages where it is available, and commercial fire alarm monitoring is a separate, regulated service that must be confirmed for each proposal; smoke detection alone is not the same thing. Available with select providers and qualifying equipment or monitoring plans.

Should we record video on site or in the cloud?

On site recording keeps footage local and does not depend on your internet upload, which suits single sites and slower connections. Cloud video simplifies remote access and multi-site management but needs steady bandwidth and a subscription. Many businesses use a hybrid of both.

How long should we keep security video?

There is no single answer: it depends on your business, your risks and any requirements that apply to you. A written retention policy that keeps footage only as long as you need it, and deletes it on schedule, is a sound practice. Your insurer or counsel can advise on what applies to you.

What is access control, and do we need it?

Access control replaces keys with badges, codes or phone credentials, so you decide who can open each door and when, and every entry is recorded. It helps most when many people share a building, when staff change often, or when some rooms hold stock, cash, records or equipment. ADT Business offers access control with mobile credentials, keypads and card readers that integrates with its intrusion and video systems; Vivint offers smart locks with unique user codes.

Will someone assess our site before we choose?

For qualifying commercial security projects, we can help coordinate a site assessment with an appropriate provider or, in certain markets, a local Simexa account executive. Simexa does not have on-site coverage everywhere in the United States, so tell us your locations and we will arrange what is available.

Are security cameras a cybersecurity risk?

Any device on your network can be if it is left with default credentials or outdated firmware. Change default passwords before use, require multifactor authentication on management accounts, keep updates on and limit remote access. Ask each provider how its system handles these.

Does Simexa add a fee, and can you supply vendor documents?

Simexa does not add its own fee or markup to the provider's available pricing; providers compensate us when you order through us. Equipment, installation, monitoring fees and taxes in the provider's agreement still apply. Our team can also assist with W-9s, certificates of insurance and applicable contractual documentation for vendor onboarding.

Who do we contact after the system is installed?

Monitoring, billing, equipment and technical support are with the provider you choose. We help with the order and coordinate setup with the provider, who handles service, billing and support. When you add a location or your agreement comes up, contact us to explore options again.
